Bird flies the coop to join Naked

at workNaked has hired Simon Bird as one of the key personnel in its New Zealand operation. Management duties will be shared by Bird and Matt O’Sullivan, who left Carat after just nine weeks a few months back to set up the New Zealand arm of the international media agency.

The appointment is a coup for Naked, as Bird is currently working for Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney and has plenty of experience.

O’Sullivan says Bird’s hiring creates a new dynamic, not just for Naked, but for the industry in general and, with the amount of flux in the industry at the moment, he thinks it’s a good time to start challenging the established model.

Bird, who has worked as a communications planning director for Carat Auckland, brand planner for Mojo Melbourne and head of media planning for Optimedia Auckland, said: “I’m really excited about joining Naked NZ. I’ve watched them with interest as they’ve expanded around the globe, clearly they’ve been very successful everywhere they’ve launched and I’d like to think New Zealand will be too. I think the Naked model is a great fit for the New Zealand market”.
