Sinead Boucher appointed CEO as Fairfax rebrands to Stuff

Sinead Boucher has been announced as the new chief executive officer of Fairfax Media's New Zealand business, which is being renamed Stuff.

Boucher replaces former managing director Simon Tong who left Fairfax in March, shortly before its proposed merger with rival publisher NZME was rejected by the Commerce Commission.

Since joining Fairfax in 2007 as the company's first group digital editor, Boucher has helped the fledgling Stuff website grow to become one of the most popular news sites in New Zealand. In 2013, Boucher was promoted to the group executive editor role where she has remained ever since.

According to the Stuff website, Fairfax Media chief executive Greg Hywood says that Boucher has established herself as an impressive force in modern media, stating that she will be stepping into the role "having had a long and distinguished career in traditional and digital media."

In regards to the decision to rebrand Fairfax to the same name as its flagship news outlet, Boucher says that it reflects the unique position and direction of the New Zealand business which is "charting [its] own course" and its status as "the country's biggest digital brand".

"I feel privileged and proud to have the chance to lead a company with such a strong connection to New Zealanders and the communities we live and work in," she says.

The name change from Fairfax to Stuff will take effect over the coming month.
