Tanya Walshe named Bauer Media New Zealand managing director

Bauer Media Group has announced the appointment of Tanya Walshe to managing director of Bauer Media New Zealand, following news of former managing director Brendon Hill moving to be chief executive officer of Bauer Media Australia and New Zealand.

Both appointments took effect this month.

Hill’s comes after Paul Dykzeul resigned from his position as ANZ CEO. Dykzeul had been with Bauer for 25 years and was appointed to the CEO role two years ago.

Hill has been with Bauer since 2006 and joined the New Zealand team in 2015 before being promoted to the managing director role in 2017.

In the wake of Hill’s move, Walshe will use her 28 years’ experience in media to lead Bauer Media New Zealand. She’s been on the executive team for the past nine years since joining the company in 2009 as group research and strategy manager.

In 2016, Walshe’s remit was extended to include the role of publisher of weeklies and fashion. The following year she was promoted to general manager of publishing and insights, with overall responsibility for 15 magazine brands as well as Bauer’s research teams in both New Zealand and Australia.

Hill says Walshe has been instrumental in contributing to the successful position Bauer Media holds in the market and she is hugely respected throughout the organisation.

“I have had the pleasure of working closely with Tanya for the last few years and have complete confidence in her ability to drive market-leading growth and innovation while delivering exceptional content to our audiences.”

Walshe says it’s an honour to take up the role of managing director.

“We have a clear strategic roadmap and I’m excited to drive our focus on smart custom content creation, digital expansion, data and insights and launching new services around our audiences’ passion points.”
