Sarah Heeringa has been appointed as the new Life Editor for Stuff’s dedicated climate change and sustainability news coverage, The Forever Project, to inspire Kiwis to live more sustainable lives.
She will work closely with Climate Change editor Eloise Gibson who will continue to lead Stuff’s world-class climate journalism, with a focus on climate science and policy as well as holding business and government to account when it comes to climate action.
Heeringa’s appointment means The Forever Project will now grow into sustainable living content that helps Kiwis embrace simple solutions that have an impact. It will also help advertisers reach the growing number of eco-conscious consumers and those looking for stylish ways to live a better life.
“Stuff’s NowNext sustainability survey of more than 10,000 Kiwis revealed that although 75 percent believe we need to act urgently to combat climate change, only 57 percent plan to make at least one change in their home, car or commute. So there is an action gap that people need help to overcome,” says Heeringa.
“A lot of people want to embrace sustainability but while we know many people are galvanised by data or the scale of the peril ahead, there are others who feel overwhelmed by it, and it can put them off engaging with the climate crisis altogether. We’re looking forward to developing new ways to interact with Kiwis who are seeking easy, affordable but impactful solutions.”
Heeringa has 20+ years experience in media, as a journalist, magazine editor, author, copywriter, photographer and stylist. She has previously been editor of sustainable living title Good magazine.
“I have a passion for finding everyday solutions to big problems, so I’m thrilled to have landed at Stuff, where their ethos of making the world a better place is applied to everything the company does,” says Heeringa.
