Alana Schultheis, the former general manager of top
Auckland actors’ agency, Talento, has joined The Pond as a senior talent agent
following the recent departure of one of the original Pond staffers, Clinton Ulyatt, who played
a key role in the company’s growth over the past five years.
“He’s off to tackle new
challenges and we wish him all the very best in the world of corporate HR, it’s
a shame to see him move on,” says Pond director Leighton Howl.
Schultheis is no stranger to the agency world, and worked as a creative assistant and TV producer at Y&R back when Peter Scutts
was at the helm. She is once again looking forward to getting closer to agencies and to service their talent needs in a tight creative market. And although her last job was placing actors and
presenters, she does see a lot of crossover with what she is doing now.
“All creative people need nurturing, advice and
some strong direction with their careers—even the most seasoned pros,” she says.
From a client service perspective she’s ‘been
there, done that’, having recruited, vetted and managed actors ongoing and booked them into thousands of roles for the big and
small screen nationwide.

Samsung New Zealand has appointed Michael Cornwell to the role of marketing director, based in the company’s Auckland office.
Cornwell will be responsible for the strategic leadership and execution of marketing and communications initiatives across all Samsung product categories in New Zealand.
Cornwell graduated with a Bcom, majoring in marketing from the University of Otago in Dunedin and in a career spanning 16 years he has held senior sales and marketing roles in the technology and beverages industries at Hewlett-Packard and Lion in New Zealand and Red Bull and Invivo Wines in Canada.
Mango has announced the appointment of three senior PR practitioners to its team.
Joanne Fullam joins as senior account manager, bringing PR skills that have been fine tuned during her six years in the industry both in New Zealand and the UK. She has extensive consumer and b2b PR experience having worked with a range of clients both in-house and agency-side, including Stella Artois, Singapore Airlines, Twinings Tea, Anchor milk, Corona, Smirnoff and Beck’s.
She joins from Kea New Zealand where she was communications manager.
Olivia Kinley has also joined as senior account manager. She developed her PR and marketing communications skills at Auckland Racing Club Incorporated where for the past six years she was responsible for the external and internal communication programme and played a critical role in executing all premier racedays.
They both join Sean Brown, who arrived earlier in the year. Having worked on various consumer and corporate clients for PR consultancies, plus in-house corporate experience, he is applying his skills as account director on a number of accounts, including McDonald’s, Cadbury, Specsavers and Tourism Fiji.
“These three appointments have strengthened the team at a senior level and prepared us for the busiest leg of 2012,” says Mango managing director Claudia Macdonald. “Joanne and Sean are seasoned PR professionals who have both the experience and character to keep our clients smiling. And Olivia will be a valuable player on Lion with her extensive marketing communications experience. These guys tick all of my ‘Mango must-have’ boxes.”

Less than six months ago director Luke Shanahan signed with Robber’s Dog for representation in New Zealand, after leaving 8com. And he has extended that partnership to all markets including Australia, effective immediately.
