IT PR in the mix

Amidst the eternal battle for dominancy between hacks (journalists) and flacks (PR folk) there’s still a little bit of wiggle room to congratulate the efforts of each other – especially if that means beating out our common enemy: The Aussies.

Botica Butler Raudon PR’s Fred Russo is the only New Zealand-based pro to be nominated for a PR gong at this year’s Microsoft IT Journalism Awards (aka The Lizzies). Russo handles important trans-Tasman clients such as Intel and even though we are technically nemesi, much respect if he can bring the award home.

Keith Pinney’s been appointed DraftFCB’s new senior planner, working on the cornerstone Air New Zealand accounts amongst others.

Pinney returns to New Zealand after a stint working on BBDO Proximity China’s digital strategy for VW.

Reeve (nee Fitzpatrick) comes from Proximity Pulse and will use her experience at Red Bull New Zealand in her new role in Pead’s sports and entertainment team.

Starseed gets fashion firepower

Young cartoonists

The humble art of newspaper cartooning is still alive and well, and this week the next generation of current affairs caricaturists were celebrated at the Young Cartoonist Award by the NZ Listener and NZ Cartoon Archive.

Cory Mathis took home top honours (and $5000) for his efforts. Entrants were asked to draw a witticism for national and international news, Mathis’ John Key playing the Sky City slot machine image was a tough act to beat.

DDB nabs Shine GAD

He joins DDB’s team on the Sky TV account as a senior account manager.
