Harvey Cameron appoints new MD

Gareth O’Connor has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Christchurch-based Harvey Cameron.

The agency lured O’Connor to Christchurch from PHD in Auckland a year ago to take up the role of GM – Strategy and Client Service. His career spans almost 20 years’ in the media and advertising industry both here and in London, strategizing with iconic brands, including ANZ, Foodstuffs, Lotto NZ, Spark, Mercedes-Benz, Farmers, Unilever and Mediaworks. He often talks at advertising and media industry training courses run by the Commercial Communication Council and is a regular on their Strategy Lab & Media Lab courses.

“Since joining Harvey Cameron, Gareth has become an integral part of the business as a connector and a collaborator. He’s deeply engaged across the organisation with both staff and clients, relentlessly delivering with an amazing level of enthusiasm. Stepping into the MD role is a natural progression. I’m thrilled he’s taken it on,” says CEO Cam Murchison.

For O’Connor it’s a role he’s delighted to accept.

“I couldn’t be prouder to lead Harvey Cameron. We have one of the best leadership teams in the business, fantastic staff and a great list of clients,” he says.

“We’re on a mission to help our clients thrive in whatever it is they do.  I’m completely confident our talented team can help each and every one of them do exactly that.

“I’m also extremely happy to know that when our clients thrive our people do too. We’re really focused on fostering an environment where individually our people can do some of the best work of their careers and collectively, we can deliver work we’re all proud of.”

He says with Harvey Cameron being part of the Attivo Group, which includes Farrimond, Gorilla and Rainmakers in Auckland along with 303MullenLowe and MediaHub in Sydney and Perth, the Harvey Cameron team becomes a trans-Tasman team of 240.

“For our clients it means that while they have incredible expertise, capability and talent on the ground in Christchurch, this can be supercharged when required from across the group with more talent, resource, and capabilities at their disposal as and when its needed.

“It’s all geared toward giving our clients an unfair advantage, ultimately helping them to thrive, and I couldn’t be more excited about Harvey Cameron’s future.”
