George Smith joins The Hits Canterbury

New Zealand Media and Entertainment has announced that George Smith has joined The Hits Canterbury as the station’s new day show host.

Originally from Alexandra, Smith brings a wealth of radio experience, having hosted local shows across Wellington and Rodney and producing a nationwide drive show for several years.

After spending the last three years travelling and working abroad, he is now settling back in Canterbury and making his return to local radio.

The Hits general manager Harriett Mouat says: “George joining The Hits Canterbury is exciting news, not just for our team but for the region and for anyone who loves a great radio show.

“Local radio plays an important role across Canterbury, and George’s genuine passion and deep experience make him a perfect fit for The Hits.”

Connecting communities

Smith says he’s looking forward to getting back on air.

“I’m stoked to be back in New Zealand and joining The Hits’ Canterbury team. I’ve always loved local radio and the way it connects communities. Canterbury is such an exciting region, and I can’t wait to get behind the mic and be part of it.”

NZME regional head of southern commercial Janine Tindall-Morice says: “NZME is proud to invest in strong local radio, and George is a fantastic addition to our Canterbury team. His arrival also opens real opportunities for advertisers to reach engaged audiences and build meaningful relationships with consumers across the region.”

George Smith will host Canterbury Days from 10am-3pm weekdays, starting May 12 on The Hits in Canterbury on 97.7FM and via iHeartRadio.
