Academy’s realistic solution to support Kiwi businesses
Born from a desire to support local businesses struggling in the current economic climate, social media agency Academy has launched a new marketing education platform called IN-HOUSE.
The platform provides guides and lessons, with the aim of bringing marketing expertise to those who need it most at a much lower cost.
Academy says small businesses are feeling the pressure, with closures mounting and operating costs biting into thin margins. They need social media to stay top-of-mind, but most struggle to execute and can’t afford agency support.
Research shows that 16% of marketing managers report that they can’t keep up with changing algorithms.
A series of ‘how-to’ guides
Academy’s founder and chief brand officer Harry Dalton says IN-HOUSE guides are priced between $30-$50 each, a more realistic solution for Kiwis businesses seeking professional marketing support that the tradition agency fees which can range from $1,500 to $5,000 a month.

“Although our big clients were doing well, I noticed the small ones were losing the battle. I really wanted to see if I could do something to help not just a few but potentially thousands of small businesses who are struggling across New Zealand,” Dalton says.
The platform, which is a simple Shopify website, sells specific “how-to” guides in the form of downloadable PDFs. The PDFs contain the exact strategies that Academy has used to deliver results for major Kiwi brands like YOUKNOW Clothing, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Otis Oat Milk and Barker’s Menswear.
Incredible feedback
Matt Williams, an artisan Honey maker in the Coromandel has just created his first YouTube video based on an IN-HOUSE guide.
“Thanks team, your guide was super helpful. Definitely getting a laptop to edit the next one, doing it on an iPad was diabolical! I’ll be looking at some of the other templates!” says Williams.
Since launching in late May, IN-HOUSE has received positive feedback and already sold dozens of guides.
Dalton says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Kiwi investing educator Simran Kaur, who now has over 10,000 students globally and a best-selling book on investing.
