The iPhone 6 Plus’ most interesting new feature

Over the last couple of days, some dedicated Apple fans have discovered a little-known feature of the new iPhone 6 Plus and they are not too happy about it.

The problem is basically that the aluminium casing of the phones can be prone to bending and they really shouldn’t be. Some have even noticed slight bends in the phones after just having them in the front pockets of their pants for a few hours.

MacRumors had this forum post from a new iPhone 6 Plus owner:

Yesterday, I left at 10am with the iPhone in my left FRONT pocket of my suit pants. I drove 4 hours to a wedding, which also involved a lot of sitting during dinner etc but also 2-3 hours of dancing. I left at 2am and went to bed, driving home 4 hours back.

So in total, the 6 Plus was about 18 hours in my pocket while sitting mostly.

As I lay it on the coffee table and sat down on the couch to relax from the drive (yes, sitting again ), I saw the reflection of the window in the iPhone was slightly distorted.

To illustrate just how malleable the new iPhone is, YouTube channel Unbox Therapy published the below video of a guy bending an iPhone 6 Plus pretty easily with his bare hands.

Upset users have also taken their frustration to Twitter with the hashtag #bendgate

But will the phones’ hugeness and cool camera sounds save them? Ask Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon who lend their voices to some ads that, as Adweek says, don’t really seem that necessary given the early sales figures.

UPDATE: There’s been a bit of discussion from brands about #bendgate, Kit Kat, which is currently involved in a promotional partnership with Android, nailed it by tweeting out a picture with the phrase, ‘we don’t bend, we break’.
