Now that same-sex marriage is legal in New Zealand, and the licenses have been signed, we round up the companies chasing that sweet pink money.
Or, you know, they could be supporting marriage equality despite the risk of losing customers because they believe it’s a civil right. Or both. Probably both.
Love is in the air
Air New Zealand held a special flying ceremony this morning, and Ally Wanikau and Lynley Bendall became the first same-sex couple to get married in New Zealand skies. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, of Modern Family fame, was the Master of Ceremonies. Air New Zealand posted loads of photos of the ceremony on its Facebook page, along with the hashtag #AirNZlove, and changed its cover photo to a curated few of the pictures.
Lovely lovebirds
Auckland Zoo posted a picture of a pair of lovebirds on its Facebook page–the zoo holds wedding ceremonies, so forgive our cynicism.
An edgy Rotorua wedding
The Rotorua District Court opened early this morning, so that Mediaworks radio station The Edge could throw a joint wedding ceremony for two same-sex couples who won a competition.
U live celebrates
U live is chatting about marriage equality on the show today, and shared this picture on its Facebook page.
Westpac gets colourful
Westpac has decked out a branch in all-rainbow to celebrate same-sex marriage legalisation. And it changed its Facebook banner to a shot from its ‘Start Asking’ campaign.
Rydges Wellington’s cake toppers
Rydges Hotel in Wellington congratulated same-sex couples, but unfortunately no one goes to Wellington for a honeymoon.
Well groomed
Powershop got in early with its slightly controversial billboard showing Pope Benedict presiding over a same-sex marriage. And it’s used that image along with the phrase ‘You may kiss the groom’ to celebrate the law coming into effect.
#ZMGayWedding
Another wedding paid for by someone else: ZM threw a wedding for Tash Vitali and Melissa Ray, who married in Ponsonby, Auckland, yesterday. At the end of the service, the couple were pronounced “wife and wife”.
The wedding garnered plenty of interest–it was ZM’s biggest ever day online. The radio station had nearly 1.5 million page views in a day, with 12,000 people tuning in to watch a live stream of the ceremony.

Stuff.co.nz has been an open supporter of marriage equality for some time, and so has Flight Coffee. George.fm has also offered a same-sex couple DJing services for their wedding.
