And the AWARD goes to...

They're renowned as tough awards to win. And that was apparent at the AWARD awards ceremony in Sydney late last week, with Colenso BBDO the only Kiwi agency to pick up a gold for its viral film for Levi's Rear View Girls, which was one of just 16 golds handed out on the night.As the culmination of the festival of creativity Circus, which is pitching itself as the Cannes of the South, a crowd of 800+ gathered to see the most outstanding creative communications work in the Asia Pacific region.

As well as the lone gold, Colenso BBDO, which was ranked as the third best agency, picked up a total of seven silvers (one for Rear View girls in best use of social media, two for Mountain Dew Skatepark in integrated and best product launch, two for Westpac's Impulse Saver for new product development and mobile, and two for Doggelganger for direct response and best website). It also won a bronze for Beer: the untold story in integrated.

DDB won two silvers, one in print craft category for Coastguard NZ's One that got away and one in the flat mail category for the AS colour brochure, as well as one bronze for Steinlager We Believe in best product launch/relaunch.

DDB's clients did well in the film categories, with Finch winning four bronzes for NZ Lotteries Big Wednesday, while Sky Adult and Sky's 60 things in 60 seconds took two bronzes each.

Clemenger BBDO took two bronzes for ACC's handlebar Grip and NZTA's Sneak Up campaign in the direct community service categories and it also won two silvers with The Sweet Shop for NZTA's The Inner Battle.

DraftFCB took bronze for the Effies campaign in direct response and Lion rounded out the Kiwi list with a bronze for Speight's Man Like Natural in 30 second TV commercials.

There were no Kiwi award winners for magazines, newspapers or outdoor.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne won the best in show award and three gold trophies for the NAB ‘Break Up’ campaign and JWT Shanghai was a four time gold winner with its ‘Heaven and Hell’ campaign for Samsonite. Leo Burnett Sydney for Watermark and DDB Singapore for Musical Fitting Rooms won two each and Publicis Mojo won gold in film for Hahn Super Dry.

“There was an impressive and diverse group of winners this year," said chairman of judges Nick Law from R/GA. "The best work got enormous attention by hitting a cultural nerve. In most cases the concepts were thoughtful and the craft solid; but it was the context that gave the work power. A sensitivity to how the work fit in time and place.”

The Network of the year went to BBDO, the AWARD Agency of the Year went to Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Lion was proclaimed AWARD Client of The Year for the second year in a row.

“The winners are a shot of adrenaline for all of us," said AWARD chairman Craig Davis. "It is important that we stop and celebrate the very best creative work each year, great work is inspirational for the industry."
