Repco signs up Cory Jane as Dad of the Year ambassador

The All Blacks are attractive endorsers, and they spruik everything from undies to batteries to deodorant. Hell, even the coach Steve Hansen is the (relatively surprising) face of Kitchen Things. Now Repco has enlisted the services of Cory Jane for its father’s day-related Dad of the Year campaign.

“Cory’s a father of four great little kids so he knows what being a dad is all about and understands the commitment and values that go with it,” says Repco New Zealand executive general manager Mark Brunton.

He also says dads of all ages are some of Repco’s most loyal customers so the campaign is about celebrating them/greasing up to them in the lead up to Father’s Day

Kicking off last week, participants have been nominating any dad of their choice by logging into the competition through Facebook, submitting a photo and explaining why this dad is the greatest in about 50 words. Vetted entries were then uploaded to the site, which has 82 entries at the time of publishing, and people can vote on their favourite. The dad with the most votes on Sept 7 will win a cheque for $10,000 and the title of the Repco Dad of the Year. There are also ten spot prizes of $100 Repco vouchers.

Repco is looking for dads who are inspirational with a strong commitment and involvement with their family, who are role models to the children of the community, and who provide a significant contribution to the community or nation.

“A top dad supports their kids, encourages them to pursue their dreams and do their best no matter what,” says Brunton.

Jane will be encouraging people to nominate their dad—or someone else’s dad they think is worthy—and he will feature as part of the Repco Dad of the Year award advertising campaign in the lead up to Father’s Day. He will also be doing some promotional media activity when he is available in between his All Blacks’ commitments, his prolific Tweeting and his occasional teammate violation on allblacks.com. Repco stores are also selling Dad of the Year mugs for $5, with proceeds donated to Canteen New Zealand.

Let’s just hope we get to see Jane whipping out some sweet dad dancing as part of the campaign.

And if dads need any guidance, there’s a surprising amount of wisdom in this ad from a company trying to sell you Peanut Butter-flavoured cereal.
