In addition to venomous fauna and teenage hoodlums, the chromatic pairing of black and yellow has come to typify Pak ‘n Save in the Kiwi retail industry. However, this year, in a show of support for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF), Pak ‘n Save will set aside its colour allegiance and turn its ‘Number 8 wire’ ad pink in the ten days leading up to the annual Pink Ribbon Appeal, which takes place on 9 and 10 October this year.
“Any one of the women (or men) in our lives could be affected by breast cancer,” says Steve Anderson, the managing director of Foodstuffs New Zealand. “Pak ’n Save is proud to help spread the message of early detection and support the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation with their appeal.”
Breast cancer will affect one in nine New Zealand women in their lifetime, making it one of the most common forms of cancer in new Zealand.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women and is diagnosed in eight women every day,” says Evangelia Henderson, chief executive of the NZBCF. “Awareness of the signs and symptoms and self-checks and mammograms leading to early detection substantially increase life expectancy and likelihood of survival.”
In addition to the airing the pink TVC to a potential audience of 2.4 million viewers, Pak ‘n Save staff will be wearing pink ribbons and customers will be able to support the cause by gifting coins to the one of the many bucket collectors posted outside selected stores around the country.
Even Stickman will be getting behind the cause by also wearing donning a pink ribbon.
