Kevin Kenrick to step down as Chief Executive of TVNZ

TVNZ Chief Executive, Kevin Kenrick has advised the Board of his intention to step down after more than nine years in the role. He will continue in the role for the next six months before leaving at the end of February 2022.

TVNZ Chair, Andy Coupe, says that Kevin has being an outstanding leader throughout his tenure.

“From his appointment in 2012, Kevin has led the organisation through a period of significant growth and transformational change. Whilst we will be sad to see him leave, the board is confident that Kevin has positioned TVNZ strongly for future success.

“The Board would like to thank Kevin, not only for his contribution over the past nine years, but also for offering to stay on for an extended notice period, which will give the Board more time to seek a successor of his calibre. They will be big shoes to fill,” he says.

In recent years, TVNZ has transformed itself from a legacy broadcaster into a comprehensive digital and linear content service. TVNZ OnDemand has grown exponentially to now reach 1 million viewers a week, and an unwavering commitment to local news, entertainment content and sport has secured TVNZ’s role in New Zealanders’ daily lives in the face of increased global competition.

Kevin says he is proud of what TVNZ has achieved in his time as Chief Executive.

“It’s a privilege to lead such an iconic New Zealand company and I still pinch myself that we engage more than 2 million viewers every day across our content platforms. I’ve loved the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented team at TVNZ and feel confident that the business is in great shape and is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities ahead.

“This has been a tough decision to make and yet it feels like the right time to finish. It gives the board time to select a new CEO heading into the public media future, and I’m committed to supporting them with this leadership transition.”

After finishing at TVNZ, Kevin plans to take an extended break before making any decisions about future roles.

TVNZ Commercial Director, Jodi O’Donnell comments on Kenrick’s departure: “As part of our TVNZ whānau, we wanted to let you know TVNZ CEO, Kevin Kenrick has announced his resignation this morning. Kevin will remain on board until February and his replacement will be announced in due course.

:Kevin has been a passionate supporter of all our advertisers and agency partners throughout his time at TVNZ. While there will be ample time to say goodbye, myself and the team remain on hand for all your needs through the current lockdown measures and out the other side.”

Coupe says the Board will commence a search for a replacement shortly.
