Google’s trekker dons a silly backpack

If you’ve ever been self-conscious about your dress, don’t worry: you could be traipsing around New Zealand carrying an 18kg backpack that looks like an alien invention.

That’s what ‘Google Trekker’ Matt Jenke is doing this week, and frankly he looks ludicrous.

In unrelated news, StopPress may be a bit envious of Jenke’s super cool job.

Jenke this week set off on a three-day journey to map out the Abel Tasman Coast track using Google’s Street View cameras, and then will head onto the Heaphy track. Both are among New Zealand’s ‘great walks’.

No doubt plenty of his fellow trampers will have questions about his backpack, which has 15 five-megapixels cameras attached.
