All shook up...

...as Telecom farewells a marketing doyenne, MediaWorks lures Richard Fenner away from the golf course, Terabyte Interactive opens a Sydney office and QGroup announces a couple of new digital hires.

Clean-up in Iles five

There was a big change in the Telecom marketing department recently when chief marketing officer Keiren Cooney departed for a role in Australia and was replaced by Jason Paris. And now there appears to have been another one, with Simon Iles, head of consumer fixed and converged marketing and past Marketing Association board chairman, departing.

Neither Iles or Telecom head of comms Mark Watts were able to be contacted, but the phrase "has worked at Telecom" on her Facebook profile seems to show it's true.

Iles has previously held the role of general manager marketing & strategic planning at Briscoe Group (Briscoes Homeware, Rebel Sport, Living & Giving), spent five years at Pacific Retail Group (Noel Leeming and Bond & Bond) and has also been a consultant to IAG NZ Ltd (State and NZI). She has diverse experience across a wide variety of companies and segments including DB Breweries (Liquorland), Woolworths/Big Fresh, Viko Holdings, NRM Animal Feed and Digital Computers.

In fine Fenner

Richard Fenner departed Spark, the agency he co-founded, earlier this year to focus on golf and contemplation of the universe. But he's obviously had his fill of leisure and he's set to join MediaWorks as business development director.

Sales director Linda Farrelly talked about his imminent arrival at yesterday's launch of the 2012 season, which led to both oohing and ahhing from the audience.

Sydney-side up

Following on from Terabyte’s work in launching 10 new Australian Radio Network (ARN) websites, Auckland digital agency Terabyte Interactive has opened a new office in Sydney, with Parramatta City Council ICT programme leader Michaela Aguilar-Davis, who has 20 years experience in Australia in digital strategy, research and technology, appointed as managing director.

Terabyte chief executive Doug Hanna says the Australian arm will focus on FMCG, tourism, lifestyle and government, as well as servicing Australia-based clients, including, ARN). Its New Zealand clients include Parliament, Christchurch International Airport, Heinz-Watties, Robert Harris, TVNZ, NZTE, Fonterra and TRN.

Terabyte has been around since 1989 and has won a host of awards both domestic and international (including finalist placings in The Webbys) for design and innovation.

Simon Moutter has just wrapped up a seven-year tenure at Spark, where the changes the company has gone through under his reign are nothing short of radical. From its name change (Telecom to Spark) and its operating model (traditional to agile), to its culture (publically called out to inclusive) and its structure (monopoly brand to many). Elly Strang sat down with Moutter had a candid chat about his journey to CEO and how one of his biggest lessons was he couldn't solve a culture issue with process and strategy.
