Back to TV

John Campbell is to join TVNZ in late September.

He’ll be working as a presenter and journalist across 1 NEWS programmes and platforms, says TVNZ’s head of news and current affairs John Gillespie.

“I know John’s excited to be returning to TV – it’s where he’s in his element. In the field and in the studio, we’ll be showcasing John’s extraordinary range and versatility on a big canvas.”

Campbell’s been given a roving brief, says Gillespie. “John will be a high impact player for 1 NEWS. He’ll file for news and longer pieces for Sunday. And he’s likely to step in to present Tonight, Breakfast, Seven Sharp, Sunday, Q + A and 1 NEWS from time to time.

“John’s a broadcaster known for his love of superlatives so let me return the favour. The calibre of his work is fantastic. He tells stories that matter, he delivers robust journalism with a lot of heart and he breaks stories that draw audiences in. We’ll be amplifying that.”

Campbell says he’s looking forward to his new role, which will see him split his time in and out of the studio.

“After 20 years of sitting in a studio five nights a week, I’m really excited by the prospect of spending more time in the field. I love getting out, meeting people and sharing their stories. I can’t wait to get to work.”

Last year he co-presented What Next? for TVNZ and another series is currently in the works.

Following Campbell Live, he’s hosted RNZ’s weekday drive-time news programme Checkpoint for the past two and half years. His work there saw him named International Presenter of the Year at the 2017 Association of International Broadcasters Awards.

A new direction

Auckland-based global enterprise messaging provider, Modica Group, has announced Scott Weenink will be joining the company as an executive director and chief commercial officer. His role will be to drive the company’s global growth strategy.

Weenink will first complete his notice period requirements with Auckland Airport, where he has been general counsel and company secretary since February 2016.

Weenink is no stranger to Modica Group, having joined the board in August 2016 as an independent director.

Stuart Wilson, one of the founders and chief executive officer of the Modica Group, says the company is delighted that Weenink has now agreed to come on board full-time to help further accelerate our growth across key markets.

“Scott has already made a significant contribution to the company as an independent director and we look forward to further utilising Scott’s international M&A experience, specifically in technology and telecoms, and also experience working in emerging markets throughout Asia, the Middle-East and North Africa.”

Weenink will also take a significant equity stake in Modica Group and continue to sit on the board of directors, as an executive director.

He says he has enjoyed his time at Auckland International Airport, but is pleased to now have the opportunity to spend more time focused on the success of Modica Group.

“It is an exciting company with significant growth opportunities in New Zealand and other markets. The company is well run and has exceptional technology capability meaning the technological product is very compelling for both partners and end users.”

Weenink is set to join Modica Group late 2018.

Big opportunities

L-R: Lynda Millward, Kate Barron and Niki Schuck.

NSPR Limited has announced the appointment of two new directors, Lynda Millward and Kate Barron, in what managing director Niki Schuck calls an investment in the future.

Schuck says announcing Millward and Barron as directors is something to truly celebrate.

“Lynda and Kate are both highly talented individuals. Outside of their loyalty to the business and our clients, their attitude to client service has always been at a level you’d expect from people invested in the business. The time was right to reward that loyalty and expertise.”

A passionate supporter of women in business, Schuck saw the directorships as creating an opportunity for the two women to build their own financial independence.

Millward, who has worked with Schuck since 2012, has a background in travel, tourism and hospitality, while Barron shifted to Auckland from her marketing manager role at the Otago Museum in Dunedin, after being head-hunted by Schuck.

Millward says she has worked with Schuck for a number of years and she has always been extremely collaborative and inclusive.

“Through sheer hard work, loyalty, going above and beyond and thinking differently for clients, Schuck has ensured NSPR is the success it is today. I am proud and honoured to work with such inspirational people.”

Barron says she is thrilled to be stepping into the role of director.

“The opportunity to be a director of NSPR is not lost on me. I love what I do as we work with people and companies who are not only inspiring but also leaders in their speciality. The realisation of a vision is incredibly satisfying, and I pride myself on supporting and enabling our clients to do exactly that. I’m excited about being an integral part of growing NSPR.”

Tenacious trio

L-R: Katherine Sliper, Leila de Koster and Kristyna Hotchin

99 has announced the promotion of three senior staff members, Katherine Sliper, Leila De Koster and Kristyna Hotchin, to the position of group business directors to head up its client service team.

All are accomplished industry veterans, a fact that newly appointed managing director Troy Fuller says will be a real asset to the agency.

“Kat, Leila and Kristyna are highly respected figures with proven track records. They’ve each got over a decade’s experience to draw on, meaning there’s a wealth of knowledge to share both with our clients and the teams here at 99, which will be invaluable.”

Sliper and Hotchin have worked across some of New Zealand’s biggest brands including Fonterra, Spark, Burger King, New World, Westpac and Farmers, while de Koster has been predominantly based overseas working on clients such as Google and Cheapflights.

As a result, they all have broad experience across a range of advertising disciplines, from brand and retail through to more specialised fields like shopper marketing, CRM and digital.

Each group business director will work on the agency’s key accounts to provide strategic leadership helping the agency continue to perform at its very best for each client.
