First Table welcomes global startup executive as CEO

Kiwi restaurant booking platform First Table has appointed global startup executive Alex Cappy as chief executive officer.

The appointment comes as First Table expands in the UK and looks to further scale its marketplace model internationally.

Founder Mat Weir will step into a newly-created role where he will focus on artificial intelligence and other technology opportunities for First Table.

“Cappy is an exceptional operator with deep experience scaling complex, global marketplaces. As First Table enters its next phase of growth, particularly in the United Kingdom, this is the right time to bring in a CEO with that capability,” Weir says.

“I’ll remain closely involved in shaping the product and technology direction of the business, which has always been my passion.”

Next stage of growth

Cappy is a globally experienced marketplace operator who has scaled businesses across Europe, the US and New Zealand. She held senior leadership roles at Uber and Deliveroo in the UK, and previously served as CEO of global manufacturing platform Hubs, where she led the business through rapid growth following its acquisition by Protolabs.

As CEO, Cappy will play a key role in advancing First Table’s expansion across the UK, while extending its marketplace model and continuing to deliver value for both restaurant partners and diners. Her experience in scaling operationally complex, marketplace-driven businesses is expected to drive the company’s next stage of growth.

“First Table has built a powerful marketplace that solves a real problem for both diners and restaurants,” Cappy says.

“I see a significant opportunity to scale this model internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom, and to further strengthen the platform through product and operational excellence.”
