Testicular Cancer NZ and Colenso BBDO launch Lump Lottery
Testicular Cancer NZ, Colenso BBDO and Jac have joined forces to launch Lump Lottery for Testicular Cancer Awareness Month in April.
The initiative offers an incentive for men to check their balls – a brand-new ute.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer affecting young Kiwi men, with around 182 cases diagnosed each year. When detected early, the survival rate is 96%.
Despite this, many remain hesitant to check themselves, leading to cases being referred to clinicians later than they should be.
Do it now
Lump Lottery aims to turn the ‘I’ll do it later’ attitude into ‘I need to do it now to win!’.
Led by All Blacks legend, Sir Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford – who famously had his testicle torn out in a rugby game against France – the campaign strives to educate the nation on how to check themselves.
There are four key steps:
- Go to LumpLottery.co.nz.
- Learn how to check yourself.
- Answer yes or no to finding a lump.
- Go in the draw to win a brand-new Jac ute.
Inspire real behaviour change
Si Vicars, CCO of Colenso BBDO, says: “The reality is we can’t educate men out of this illness. Kiwi blokes know they should check – they know it’s potentially deadly – they just can’t really be bothered. We have to inspire real behaviour change. Lump Lottery is designed to use a 170 horsepower ute to drag them out of this dangerous apathy.”
CEO of Colenso BBDO Angela Watson says: “There have been so many great campaigns over the years for breast cancer awareness that have led to some incredible results. Now it’s time to shine a spotlight on the balls of Aotearoa.”
Peter Dickens, Testicular Cancer NZ chief executive, adds: “Every year we look for an opportunity to grab the attention of those at risk from testicular cancer. With Jac and our other campaign partners, we’re confident that this year we’ve found a unique formula that will make a truly positive impact on this most diagnosed cancer in young men in Aotearoa.”
The campaign will run throughout Testicular Cancer Awareness Month across TV, OOH, digital and social. The competition winner will be announced on May 4.
