Third time’s a charm as Colenso takes another YoungGuns honour

The YoungGuns awards aim to recognise the world’s best advertising and communications industry talent under the age of 30 and, after becoming the only agency in the world to win the YoungGuns agency of the year twice in 2001 and 2008, Colenso BBDO was named as the most awarded agency of the decade by the organisation in 2010. And it’s obviously no fluke, because it’s also been awarded the 2012 agency of the year prize after winning four bullets in total—one gold, two silvers and a bronze—with Contagion the only other Kiwi agency to take home a prize after winning bronze.

Jae Morrison, who’s now at Thick as Thieves, was awarded the gold bullet in the Best Use of a Single Channel category and a silver in Television/Cinema for the Donation Glasses campaign for Pedigree.

Simon Vicars and James Tucker won a silver bullet for Monteith’s Sorry about the Twigs, as well as winning a bronze in the Newspaper Campaigns category for Bevan, Idiot, Sean for DB Export Dry.

“I’m thrilled for the guys. Jae, Simon and James are exceptionally talented and bring a truckload of great ideas and creativity to the agency,” says Nick Worthington, Colenso BBDO’s creative chairman. ”We like to think we have an unfair share of the talent locally and internationally. Being named YoungGuns 2012 Advertising Agency of the Year confirms our suspicion that we have some of the best young minds in the world working with us.”

Contagion’s Verity Dookia and Dan Walton took a bronze for their work on Kiwicare in the promotions category.

Colenso also had nine finalist entries, with Graeme Clarke, Lachlan Palmer-Hubbard and Joel Little finalists for their work on campaigns such as the V Motion Project for Frucor, The Art of Money for BNZ, Books shape you for the New Zealand Book Council and No one will know except you for Off Wax Bar.

Antony Bell and Adam Taylor from DraftFCB were the only other Kiwi finalists for Pak ‘n Save’s Meat Lovers Week campaign in TV.

DDB NZ won the agency of the year award in 2010.
