Pitchblack Partners and Bowel Cancer NZ launch ‘Poo with a view’

Bowel Cancer New Zealand has partnered with Pitchblack Partners for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this June.

Bowel cancer is one of New Zealand’s  deadliest cancers, yet when detected early, more than 90% of cases are curable, says Bowel Cancer NZ. Despite this, awareness remains alarmingly low, with many New Zealanders still believing it primarily affects older people. In fact, only one in four Kiwis can identify a symptom.

To challenge this misconception, they have launched ‘Poo with a view’, giving Kiwis the chance to win a trip to one of Aotearoa’s most scenic toilets simply by completing a symptom checker at www.poowithaview.org.nz and learning the key symptoms of bowel cancer.

Make it easier to talk about

Pitchblack Partners creative director Liz Richards says: “With so many health messages out there, every cause is fighting for attention. Rather than just listing symptoms, we’re hoping to make a serious topic much easier to talk about.”

Fellow creative director Nick Dellabarca adds: “Chances are you’re reading this on the toilet at work. Take two minutes, and your next poo could be somewhere far more spectacular.”

Head of marketing and communications Sarah Watford says: “Bowel cancer is New Zealand’s second deadliest cancer, yet too many people don’t know the symptoms or assume it won’t happen to them.

“‘Poo with a view’ takes a uniquely Kiwi idea and uses it to start a conversation that could genuinely save lives. If more people recognise the signs of bowel cancer and seek help earlier, we’ve achieved what we set out to do.”
