Time for a change

TV3 director of programming Mark Caulton has announced his resignation.

After 18 years with the channel in a variety of roles, he will move to the UK in the new year.

Caulton has held the position of director of programming for the last four years, and in that time the channel share has continued to perform strongly.

Chief content officer Andrew Szusterman said Caulton has made a significant contribution during his time at TV3.

"His expertise in so many areas of the business will be truly missed. I can't thank him enough for all he has done. We wish Mark, Karen and the family all the best with their move to the UK."

Aboot his move, Caulton said: "It's been an absolute pleasure and a privilege being part of the programming team at TV3 over the last 18 years. There's literally never been a dull moment, and I count myself very fortunate to have worked alongside so many talented people".

"I'm immensely proud of the current team and what we've achieved, and I look forward to hearing of their continued success as I begin an exciting new chapter with my family."

A search for his replacement is underway.

Master of numbers

In other MediaWorks news, has a new chief financial officer following Ciara McGuigan's appointment.

In the role, she will oversee financial operations across the group's television, radio and digital assests. CEO Michael Anderson said it is thrilled to have McGuigan in the team.

"Her leadership skills and financial acumen are world-class, and her experience comes at a time of great opportunity for the business. I have no doubt Ciara will play a key part in our success.”

McGuigan brings with her 20 years of international finance management experience across the telecommunications and retail sectors in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand. Before joining MediaWorks, she was at Vodafone for nine years, with her most recent role being chief financial officer after joining the New Zealand team in 2013.

The new appointment comes following the departure of David Chalmers, who has taken on the CFO role at Spark.

McGuigan will join MediaWorks in February 2017.

A homecoming

Carat New Zealand has lured Nick Scott (pictured right) back to New Zealand to take up the role of group business director at the agency. 

Scott returns to New Zealand after ten years in Singapore, working for global marketing and performance agencies such as Havas, Neo@Ogilvy and MullenLowe Profero, where he led multiple blue chip digital accounts including IBM and Apple. 

General Manager of Carat NZ Alex Lawson welcomed the arrival of Scott to the team.  

“We’re excited to have secured a candidate of Nick’s quality and experience, especially within the digital sphere,” Lawson said.  “Nick’s expertise will be invaluable to our clients and team as we continue to progress into the digital and programmatic world. I’m really looking forward to seeing his impact on our clients, the team he’ll be leading and the Dentsu Aegis Network here in NZ.” 

Scott starts his role on the 7th of November. 

It takes two

The Us&Co team has two new faces in it, following Josephine Ross stepping in as design director, and Courtenay Clark joining as social media manager.

Ross recently returned from Vancouver hot-shop Toolbox and prior to that spent the last four years at Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide. She brings with her a passion for visual identity with an eye for digital design.

With the new role, Clark is returning to agency land after a short stint at Cittá. She’s also worked at Socialites, leading its social media and content offering, and at 99 where her career started.

Us&Co founder James Polhill is excited to add the pair to the team.

“Jo brings an exceptional amount of talent to the agency and will lead a growing team of designers working hand-in-hand with our digital director Chris Street,” he says. “Courtenay adds a depth of experience to our social media capability to ensure we meet the increasing demands of the market and the ever-changing media landscape. She’ll also work closely with the team to develop our influencer marketing platform Populr.”

A sweet role

The Sweet Shop has announced the appointment of Kate Neill to the newly created position of director of communications.

Based in Melbourne, Neill will lead the production company’s editorial voice globally, both internally and externally across all marketing touch points, media and social media. She will report to CEO and founding partner Paul Prince.

Prince commended her for bringing a huge amount of experience and expertise to the new role.

“Her strategic vision, coupled with her track record of creativity and obvious passion for The Sweet Shop made her the clear choice for this prominent role.”

That experience comes from 15 years in the industry, with her most recent role being DDB’s director of communications for the Asia Pacific region.

Taking the lead

Hootsuite has a new general manager for Asia-Pacific, with Rich Meiklejohn stepping into the newly established role.

Prior to joining Hootsuite, Meiklejohn managed key partnerships for business intelligence and performance management software company Cognos. He’s also worked for eGain, served as CEO of Zafin Asia Pacific and was a partner of Heidrck & Struggles. In total, he brings to 25 years of experience across Asia and Australia in software, media and consulting.

He will report to Hootsuite’s senior vice president of sales, Bob Elliott, who said: “We are excited to welcome Rich to the team. His experience advising the region’s leaders, experience in setting up strategic partnerships, and familiarity with the underlying platforms and technology will be invaluable to Hootsuite and our clients. I’m excited to work with Rich on empowering brands looking to harness the potential of social in APAC.”

Meiklejohn’s newly established role reflects Hootsuite’s rapid growth in APAC over the past year including adding 50 percent more people to their team in 2016.

Moving up

Sparcmedia has announced the appointment of Kurt Holloway as sales director, for its Australia and New Zealand agency and direct advertiser business.

Holloway joined the company earlier this year as Victorian State manager, opening up the business’ Melbourne office and hiring key foundation staff in the territory.

The move to his new role follows the earlier promotion of Stacey Delaney from sales and marketing director to managing director of the agency and advertiser business.

About Holloway’s move, Delaney said: “Kurt has been a fantastic hire for the Sparcmedia business and has proved himself invaluable to us as a senior leader. He has built a fantastic culture in Melbourne and has been instrumental to the roll-out of our data and insights offering. His next chapter is looking very promising where he will focus on driving our client success story and expanding our Australian and New Zealand markets".
