Happy Tuesday-news day! Today, Sky announced it is buying Discovery NZ from Warner Bros. Discovery for $1. Discovery NZ is the owner of TV channel Three and its broadcast video on demand platform ThreeNow. The move is being seen as compelling opportunity for Sky, supporting its ambition to be the "most engaging" TV platform in Aotearoa.
Meanwhile, BcgCrave and NZ Rugby have reignited the power of poi in a new campaign for the Black Ferns as the team prepares for the Rugby World Cup. At the last World Cup in 2022, held here in Aotearoa, fans twirled poi as they cheered on their national team from the stands. Media expert Antony Young is bringing us his roundup of global media news, including a new tourism campaign from Canada that encourages US tourists to "hug it out".
