It's been almost a decade in the making, but Ikea finally opened its doors in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland yesterday. Despite the lack of traffic chaos, plenty of people were at the launch event, myself included. Following prime minister Christopher Luxon cutting the ribbon at 11, the queue of people was let inside to shop the aisles of flatpack furniture, homewares and of course, the Swedish meatballs.
Regional tourism organisation Love Taupō has seen Ikea's launch as the perfect opportunity for a new campaign. They're using Ikea's iconic colours and some tongue in cheek messaging to encourage people to pay Taupō a visit, says general manager Patrick Dault.
