Industry happenings at FCB, TVNZ, MediaWorks, RadiumOne, ApolloNation, Raydar, Ad2one, Snakk Media and Pead PR.
Gravity Coffee’s week-long intern experiment, Sky’s awkward dead air, Orcon’s new feline ambassadors, Cool Charm’s street cred and Ogilvy’s Shopping Channel clasp the TVC of the Week trophy to their bosoms this week.
Just Juice has Antonia Prebble, Symbio has Lorraine Downes and now Cool Charm is aiming to up its street cred by launching a campaign starring its new ambassador: Kiwi electropopper Zowie.
We wrote about Brother’s plans to promote its naming rights sponsorship of the brrmm brrmms a few weeks back. And the multi-channel campaign went live this week, led by a cool new TVC created by Raydar and SPG/Kaleidoscope that’s about as far away as you could get from the Japanese company’s previous TV efforts and links its technology with rally driving by bringing a print out of a car to life.
For many years, Brother has focused on promoting printers, copiers, sewing machines, labellers and other products from its “home and business IT peripherals” range, usually with a host of low-budget TV ads and that well-known tune at the end, ‘Brutttthhhher’. But it’s attempting to come out of the shadows in New Zealand—and, at the same time, showcase the Japanese company’s technological prowess—by signing up as naming rights sponsor of the Brother Rally New Zealand and the Brother International Rally of Whangarei.
Glenn Jameson has “been putting out fires his entire career and now wants to start some”, Raydar’s long serving creative director hands over the baton, James Coleman gets up early, ex APNer Greg Hornblow moves into real estate, and, fresh from swallowing Mitchells, Aegis launches a new innovation unit.
Digital activation agency Touch/Cast, bought by Clemenger just last month, and retail advertising agency Raydar have joined forces to bring a new digital offering to the Auckland market. The venture will be headed up by well-known digital evangelist, Zac Pullen.
Raydar recently benefitted from a global network realignment when it picked up the Pacific Blue account in New Zealand. And lightning has struck twice: it has now been named as the local agency for Mercedes-Benz after the German car brand named BBDO as its global network in January.
Raydar has picked up the Virgin Blue Group account in New Zealand, which will see it handle advertising in New Zealand and Pacific Island markets for Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue airlines.
Clemenger’s Alphabet Soup will merge with Raydar, starting January 2010.
