Mitsubishi has released a new commercial via Clemenger BBDO for its Outlander SUV and, rather than focus on the car’s features as is often customary in auto ads, it’s focusing on the drivers. And while it’s a laudable goal to try something new, we must admit to being slightly confused about this one.
A meaningful slow clap goes out to NZTA, Mitsubishi, Tasti, Spark and Coca-Cola this week.
Mitsubishi and Clemenger BBDO have had a fairly good run on the advertising front, with the retro campaign for the Mirage and the humorous take on hybrid technology to launch the MPEH Outlander standing out. Now it’s released an ad promoting the just released Triton ute that talks up its reliability with the tagline ‘You can bet on it’.
Mistubishi has just launched New Zealand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. But, rather than trying to explain the complex technology in the new Outlander, Clemenger BBDO and Curious have kept it simple. Plus: lots more brmm-brmms and a new automotive sponsorship.
At first glance, using old ads for a new campaign seems like an easy option. But the story behind Mitsubishi and Clemenger BBDO’s campaign to celebrate the return of the Mirage proves that theory wrong.
Asahi is looking to the future with its latest billboard, but Mitsubishi has been dwelling on the past with its Mirage campaign and NZ Woman’s Weekly subscribers were transported back in time in this week’s issue with a magazine cover from 1985 and an old Mirage ad on the back.
