Bauer-owned Home magazine has updated its website, giving it a slick new online abode that’s more befitting of the stylish print publication.

The Dominion Post and NZ Herald will contest this year’s Canon Media Award for Best Newspaper with circulation over 30,000, while Good, Home and The Listener are the finalists for Best Newsstand Magazine. In the new Best Blog category it’s Toby Manhire, Cameron Slater and Giovanni Tiso, with Best Website finalist placings handed to 3News, The Wireless and Yahoo NZ.
Once again, Nielsen’s latest readership results and the ABC’s circulation numbers don’t make for particularly pleasant reading for the magazine sector, with all weeklies charting declines deemed significant on the same time last year, plenty of other significant declines and a rare few increases. And, perhaps not surprisingly, the MPA and the various publishers are hoping to change the conversation from a one-dimensional discussion about quantity, to a multi-dimensional discussion about the quality of engagement across a number of platforms.
Vero’s 1300kg Black Angus bull burst onto the scene in 2003 when Big launched the brand in New Zealand with the memorable TVC ‘Bull in a China Shop’. Fast forward about nine years and the Hawke’s Bay-based Sensation is still going strong and is one of the most enduring and well-liked mascots in the country, as evidenced by the fact an ad featured in Kia Ora magazine has taken out the April round of The Glossies with 24 percent of the vote, beating Landrover’s double-page spread in NZ Rugby World’s 1st XV with 19 percent and Team Architect’s ad by Glow Consulting in Home magazine with 12 percent.
As a grand finale to its 75th anniversary year, the Home New Zealand editorial team and Inhouse design have given the mag a spruce up for the Dec/Jan Summer issue. And, to showcase both the new design and the collaborative process required to create it, they’ve produced a cool little ‘home movie’.
