UPDATE: Auckland Council confirms Clemenger Group, Federation and Ogilvy & Mather as its new partners
Update: Auckland Council has released an official statement regarding its pitch process, confirming that Clemenger Group, Federation, and Ogilvy & Mather will be providing its advertising and media services from 1 July. PLUS: MBM and OMD will be taking over the media side.
Federation has added global animal health company Zoetis to its client list following a three-way pitch.
Cavalier Bremworth has undergone a transformation, via Federation, led by a new product and look. And giving the brand a new lease on life, the beautiful creative work is not what you would typically expect from a carpet company.

Cavalier Bremworth's Wool-I-am originally appeared in a series that was launched almost two years ago and espoused the benefits of wool carpets over synthetic. This time the New Zealand carpet maker’s campaign, once again via Federation, focuses on the company’s unique ability to manage the quality of its wool carpet right through from the farm to the tufting plant in Auckland, to the customer’s floor, with its sheep mascot posing in Napier, having a cappuccino in Auckland and even driving a truck.
After the liquidation of Publicis Mojo, we heard a few whispers that its car client, Motorcorp distributors, wouldn't be moving across to Joy and was on the hunt for an agency. And that agency has been chosen, with Federation taking over responsibility for the Volvo and Renault brands. Plus: Federation's new work for Emirates.
After an industry-wide review, The NZ Direct Marketing Awards had a big refresh this year, with a new name, a new judging process and a number of new categories and individual awards resulting in a 12 percent increase in the number of overall entries. And those entries have been whittled down to the finalist stage, with justONE leading on 16, DraftFCB on 12, Colenso BBDO on eight, Loyalty NZ on six, Affinity ID, Federation Rapp Tribal on five, and Twenty and ANZ/National on four.
Perennial performers Colenso and DraftFCB on top of Effie finalist table, BC&F and DDB hot on their heels
As the bean counters might say, if advertising doesn't improve the bottom line, it's really just art. And expensive art at that. And the agencies that improved their clients' businesses the most this year have been announced, with perennial Effie performers Colenso BBDO and DraftFCB on top with 22 and 16 finalists respectively, followed by the bolter Barnes, Catmur & Friends on ten and DDB on nine.
Back in the day, as a young lad living with a flat full of horrible men in Dunedin, we (mostly jokingly) discussed the idea of investing in a flat sheep because it was such a versatile animal, providing warmth, a footstool, lawnmowing services, fertiliser, 'comfort' (for the Southlanders) and, eventually, food. And Cavalier Bremworth is equally fond of the humble sheep's versatility, because they've launched a new campaign to remind Kiwis that wool is the best choice for carpet as it has already passed the toughest tests when it was on the beast's back.
The stain jokes have been flowing freely after an onanistic carpet cleaner got busted busting one out on Target this week. And Cavalier Bremworth, with the help of its agency Federation, hasn't let the opportunity to promote its carpet stain remover pass it by.
Auckland indie Federation has been chosen by Emirates to handle its creative account in the New Zealand market. Federation won the account after a robust pitch lasting several months, understood to have involved at least two other agencies, including the incumbents Saatchi & Saatchi. As the agency of record, Federation will be responsible for brand, digital, direct and trade marketing, working alongside the Emirates corporate communications team in Dubai.
Proudly Kiwi-owned indie agency Federation kicked off in 2008 and it pumped out a lot of work this year, with good campaigns for the likes of Warehouse Stationery, Cavalier Bremworth, Fisher & Paykel Finance and The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind. DDB NZ's ex-managing director Sharon Henderson opines on 2011.
