Last Sunday once again marked the annual time of year when Kiwis are unified in an attempt to assuage some of the guilt associated with pretty much commandeering the word relaxation from the vocabularies of the nation's fathers. And it does after all make sense, because once children enter the world, men's lives change: sleeping in late becomes virtually impossible, prized possessions become ad-hoc teething soothers and monthly bills start to stretch in a way that defies all the rules of physics. So here's a rundown of various brands that decided to tap into this shared guilt in the hope of extracting a few coins.

Print readership slide continues, but news brands grow
RalphGoodale.ca

Nielsen and the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) have released 2013's fourth quarter readership and circulation statistics for newspapers and magazines. However, it must be remembered that Nielsen’s readership insights for newspapers are exclusively based on print. So while the statistics might not seem promising, they only offer a glimpse at one aspect of readership.

APN's Herald on Sunday and Rotorua Daily Post take top regional awards

The Herald on Sunday is one of the few papers in this country to have charted increases in circulation and readership over the past few rather difficult years. And that performance has been recognised after it beat out newspapers from across Australia, New Zealand, South-East Asia and the South Pacific to win the best Sunday newspaper at the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association (Panpa) Awards.

As big changes loom, APN celebrates triple-treat at international awards show

And while times are pretty tough in the newspaper business, there's plenty of courage being shown under fire and The New Zealand Herald has been rewarded for its efforts by scoring a hat-trick of wins at the 2012 International Newsmedia Marketing Association.

Ragtimes: APN smirks while Fairfax finds silver linings

The Nielsen newspaper readership survey year on year comparative results are black and white and read all over: APN’s NZ Herald and the Herald on Sunday are the only newspapers that have improved their readerships nationally, and Sunday News, Dominion Post and Sunday Star-Times, all published by Fairfax, have each lost readership of 10 percent or more throughout the country.
