In the past, much of the emphasis at advertising awards events has been placed on television advertising on account of the fact that this has traditionally been the area that attracts the biggest chunk of ad spend. But as more money shifts to the digital, the categories that have a digital element are attracting more attention. One such area is the cyber Lions category, which encompasses branded online, digital, and technological communications.
Digital shop R/GA won the grand prix in the Cyber Lions for Nike+ FuelBand along with Volontaire Stockholm for Curators of Sweden. And Colenso BBDO took silver for Mountain Dew Skate Pinball in food and drinks.
Further shortlists have been announced for the Design Lions and Cyber Lions categories, with spokesperson and Professor of Listology at Cannes University, Dr Jean Luc Baguette saying the announcement of the contenders has significantly reduced the danger of passers-by being crushed by debris falling from the shortlist mountain. Helping minimise the peril to the general public are Alt Group and Colenso BBDO, both shortlisted for Design Lions. Colenso was shortlisted twice in the Cyber Category, with TBWA\Tequila\Digital\Shift and Tribal DDB receiving single nods.
Time is running out for young creative and media prodigies to enter the Fairfax Media Young Lions competition, which offers four fresh-faced souls a chance to attend and compete at the Cannes Lions, the largest and most prestigious advertising festival in all the world.
