And the big winner? Well it was linked to the halting of interest and inflation rates last year, it forced the electricity industry to drop its pants and it has already won a host of the country’s big awards. And DraftFCB continued its golden run by following up from the last two year’s efforts and taking the Best in Show title for its work on Electricity Authority’s What’s My Number? campaign.

A new study by McKinsey & Company has confirmed advertising is a driver of economic growth. And while this is not anything that hasn’t been reported before (specifically the 2007 seminal report by Maximilien Nayaradou that found that ad spend was a driver of growth), what is of interest in this report is its specific research and reporting on the contribution of digital marketing towards GDP.

Media Awards 2012: You be the judge!
By

For the first time, CAANZ is publicly calling for top media minds to help decide the illustrious 2012 Media Awards winners. Those keen on judging the awards can apply now, or nominate someone else they think perfect for a judging role. Rather than casting aspersions on any previous judges, this new process adds a touch more gravitas to the proceedings, and should ensure only the most knowledgeable and experienced people are representing the industry – leading to greater consistency across categories.

How to pull on the public purse strings: CAANZ and government release best practice guide for agency selection

There are already some fairly rigid structures in place to make sure public entities get the best partner for the best price. But, after 12 months work by a team of senior agency and government communications practitioners on establishing Government Best Practice Guidelines for Selecting Advertising and Media Agencies, CAANZ and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet have come up with a few more.

Cracking the moral code: Rich Adams on how to keep experiential marketers in line
By

Over the years it’s evolved under many different names, from field marketing, brand experience and even experimental marketing. But experiential marketing is finally beginning to establish itself as both a name and a discipline in its own right in New Zealand marketing circles. And this is giving rise to the trend for guerilla marketing techniques, live stunts and a variety of other non-permission based campaigns. As these become more commonplace, we’ll see these activities get closer and closer to the mark of what is and isn’t acceptable. So is self-regulation the right answer?

What the Fluxx: Pickering says au revoir to AmbientX, starts afresh with experiential focus

As the recent CAANZ research shows, experiential marketing is so hot right now. And AmbientX, which is part of the Australian-owned Ambient Advertising Group, has long been at the forefront of that scene in New Zealand. Now, in an effort to distance itself from the obvious associations with ‘ambient’ and specialise in experiential, co-founder and creative director Mark Pickering has bought the business and will be re-branding the company as Fluxx beginning in June.
