ColensoBBDO/Proximity included on prestigious Ad Age list

It’s no secret that Colenso BBDO had a fantastic 2013. The agency on College Hill won eight out nine pitches and picked up enough local and international awards to fill at least a few shelves. And given that it has now been listed as the runner-up on Ad Age’s prestigious ‘International Agency of the Year’ list, it seems that 2014 will start in the same way that last year ended: with more awards and a consequent barrage of dismissive comments.

PlayStation 4 promo lures the punters

It’s been a while between drinks for Sony PlayStation, with the PlayStation 3 launched in 2006. But given the first three generations of the machine sold more than 300 million units, there was plenty of interest in the announcement about no. 4, which some have said is a ‘tablet-inspired console’ that hopes to face up to the host of new screens it’s now competing against. And the hype film showing how to ‘push the boundaries of play’ was no.1 on AdAge’s viral video chart, clocking up more than 18 million views.

News that tech talisman Steve Jobs would hang up his black chief executive turtleneck due to ongoing health issues sent Apple’s stock price swiftly downwards. Of course, the company’s phenomenal success can be put down to the amazing products Jobs and his team created, but also to the savvy marketing campaigns that promoted them and Ad Age has compiled a retrospective of Apple’s top commercials, including classics like the now slightly ironic Orwellian ad to launch the Mackintosh, PC vs Mac, the iPod silhouettes and a range of clever interactive trickery.

On the A-list: Colenso gets stamp of approval from Ad Age

New Zealand’s (mostly) two horse international awards race between DDB and Colenso has continued apace and this time it’s Colenso in the lead, after it made Advertising Age’s ‘Agency A-List’—”the pick of the top advertising, digital, media, direct and PR agencies around the world”— and was named “international runner up agency of the year”, a spot it shared with Mother (London) and TBWA Hunt Lascaris (Johannesburg). Argentina’s Del Campo Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi won the category and Wieden + Kennedy took out the agency of the year title.
