Friday night show 7 Days is back on deck this week, and familiar comedy bastions Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego and Dai Henwood have gone head to head to build up its return.
In the build up to Jono and Ben’s return to television this Friday, MediaWorks has released a new campaign, which puts the dynamic duo in a bunch of different cinematic settings to reflect the show’s themes. The campaign is in conjunction with another for fellow Friday night favourite, 7 Days.
When he’s not lending his voice to Pak ‘n Save’s Stickman, Paul Ego is mocking Jeremy Corbett on 7 Days or performing on the stand-up circuit across the country. And when not entertaining the masses with his brand of dry and often self-deprecating humour, Ego likes to engage in some very risqué use of the fax machine.
For a large number of Kiwis, settling in for some couch time on Friday night is a weekly ritual. And MediaWorks is aiming to draw attention to the return of 7 Days and Jono & Ben at 10 this Friday with some online content and other fun and games.
Memery is a fickle mistress. One day you’re hot, one day you’re supplanted by people tipping milk over their heads for no apparent reason. And, generally speaking, you know a meme is close to death’s door when people in offices start partaking (or, in the case of flash mobs, when companies implement them as the experiential aspect of a campaign). Given there’s a website dedicated to agencies around the world that have embraced what the kids are calling the Harlem Shake, and given practically every media outlet in the world has collected some of the best efforts, it’s quite possibly in its last throes, but we couldn’t resist the pull of the thrust, so here’s our obligatory post showing local business folk indulging in weird, bacchanalian behaviour.
When it comes to comedy, the Kiwi cultural cringe seems to have steadily departed and many of our local humour mongers are now popular drawcards, both on TV and in person. MediaWorks has focused heavily on comedy with its programming on both 3 and Four, and it continues to sponsor and broadcast the New Zealand International Comedy Festival (it is showing last week’s sold-out comedy gala tonight from 8.30pm-10:30pm). To celebrate this year’s edition, it’s put a few of its seductive stars in front of a well-vaselined camera and created some channel idents around the theme ‘Comedy is Sexy’.
