What's this Twitter thing?

It was a hesitant start for Kiwi tweeters as use of the social network filtered downunder. Founder Jack Dorsey announced to the world he was "setting up his twttr" in March 2006 and now there are more than 500 million tweets a day.

To celebrate its eighth birthday Twitter has released First Tweets, a tool to let users find out the first short message they ever sent. Here's a selection of some early efforts from accounts that are world famous in New Zealand:
