Nike’s attack of the clones

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, brands are doing their best to associate with this prestigious event any way they can. Nike has just done it again with their latest spot titled “The Last Game”.

 The 5-minute short film was a risk in itself for NIke. It doesn’t feature one single football player in the flesh. Quite unusual for a brand like Nike who often leverage their abundence of celebrity endorsements.

The idea behind the spot is that mad scientists have created clones of famous footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr. and Wayne Rooney. The human versions take too many risks on the field meaning their chances of success aren’t great whereas the clones have been engineered to take no risks at all, which changes the game entirely. After the genuine footballers have been rounded up, they stage a badass comeback and … well … just watch it for yourself.
