In the past, Facebook stalkers could scroll through your images and posts to deduce if you were in a relationship, without ever letting you know who they were. But the good old days of stalker anonymity are over.
A new feature, which could only have been created to facilitate a shortcut for the lazy stalker, allows Facebook users to ask their friends if they are in relationships.
Previously, Facebook users could only ask friends for their phone numbers, street addresses and email details, but this update posits the social media site as a potential matchmaking service.
While it has become common community for the Twitter community to get caught up in fleeting tornados of outrage every time Facebook releases an update, the response has been surprisingly moderate this time.
Rather than criticising the site for infringing on their rights to privacy, most commenters are instead aiming their barbs at those who would be bold—or creepy—enough to use the feature.
Hitting the “ask” button next to “relationship status” on Facebook is the ultimate gentlemanly move.
