Anything’s possible on radio

America’s Radio Mercury Awards has served up some questionable inspiration for radio stars by encouraging them to push the boundaries and break the rules in a call for entries campaign.

The video features Christopher Jones, Betty Owens (granny) and Herbie the Hamster giving a run down of possibilities the magic of radio opens for those on air, including using granny’s head as a dart board, eating an aluminum can, removing tongue wrinkles with an iron, beating granny with a flatpan, blowing toes off with a gun, and making a kale and hamster smoothie—though Radio Mercury Awards said no hamsters were harmed in the making of the video.

And while Jones adds motivation by saying “the only place you can really blend a hamster is on the radio”, he may need to reconsider the suggestions, as many radio stations have taken to filming stunts and sharing the videos online.

Last year, The Edge’s Chang Hung got a painful lesson about real radio pranks as he was filmed running barefoot on a Lego-covered treadmill.
