Y&R NZ sets sail with Interislander

Y&R NZ has been appointed the creative agency for KiwiRail-owned Interislander after a competitive pitch, taking over from the incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi.

Nine agencies responded to the Expression of Interest and two agencies were shortlisted.

“The pitch process confirmed that Wellington is well served with some outstanding agencies and creative work but we felt that Y&R NZ offered the best fit to Interislander in terms of size, experience and personnel,” says Interislander marketing manager Gavin Rutherford. “We are looking forward to building our partnership with Y&R NZ and we’re excited by the creative potential they can bring to our brand.”

This follows other recent wins for Y&R NZ in Wellington, such as the Earthquake Commission last September, national gym chain City Fitness in March, and most recently, The Co-operative Bank.

“It’s a great win and we really appreciate the trust that’s been placed in our team,” says Scott Henderson, creative director Wellington. “We’re looking forward to giving Interislander the quality of work and service that their brand deserves.”

Elaine Bickell, group account director, says Interislander is both an iconic Kiwi brand and a significant Wellington-based business.

“We are very proud to call them a client.”

The Interislander’s last major campaign was shot by Mark & Louis of The Sweet Shop and, with the romance of the ferry, some classic New Zealand summer imagery and a ukelele version of the Interislander jingle, it somehow made going on a boat across one of the windiest stretches of water in the world seem like a good idea.
