TRB to bring back Outstanding Radio Creative Awards

The Radio Bureau announced the return of the Outstanding Radio Creative Awards (ORCA) in 2019.

The news was announced to creative and media industry professionals at the Ralph van Dijk seminar in Auckland on August 13.

The aim of the ORCA is to encourage creatives in the advertising industry to let their talents loose and explore the options afforded by radio. They provide a means to recognise and endorse outstanding radio creative advertising which creates impact and effectiveness for the client.

Previously a monthly competition, the revamped version of the ORCA will be an annual event which allows creatives to submit their best work over a 12-month period.

The submitted campaign creative will be judged on its creativity, execution and effectiveness as well as its impact and relevance. Judges for the 2019 awards are still yet to be announced.

The Radio Bureau general manager Peter Richardson says it was the right time to bring the ORCAs back.

“It really is a great opportunity for the radio industry to reward creatives behind top radio commercials. We’ve been asked numerous times when the ORCAs will be returning as people have really missed it.”

Having run for over a decade, the awards are well-known in the industry and winners of the Grande ORCA have enjoyed impressive prizes over the years. The winner of the Grandest ORCA in 2011, which celebrated 10 years of the ORCAs, took away round-the-world flights for two.

The 2019 ORCAs will also have enviable prizes for the winners. A cash prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the winner as well as a $10,000 radio schedule for the winning client. A People’s Choice Award will be decided by public voters, with the winner taking away $2,000 cash and a $5,000 radio schedule for the client.

Entries for the 2019 ORCAs are now open and must be in by 5pm on July 1, 2019. Finalists will be announced on July 15, 2019. All finalists will be invited to a lunch where the winners of the 2019 ORCA and People’s Choice Award will be presented.
