Tonight’s the night for the awards event with a twist, tickets still available

We’re geared up to give a casual nod of approval to everything that made 2017 another great year in the industry at the Stoppies tonight– and there’s still tickets available.

The event is to be held at Auckland's Fresh Factory at 10 Nikau Street in Eden Terrace. Arrival from 5pm, awards from around 7pm.

Tuxedos, hors-d'oeuvres, and wordy acceptance speeches have been stripped away for an evening that promises only cold beverages, an assortment of sizzling sausages and utilitarian trophies (which may or may not double as doorstops).

The winners of the night have been collated in a special edition magazine, designed to keep our dear readers entertained during the summer months.

As a reminder, finalists are requested to prepare five-word acceptance speeches for the night. Unsolicited verbosity will lead to immediate destruction of the winner's trophy.

Whittaker's divides the court of public opinion – but all for a good cause

On Monday, Whittaker’s launched its latest novelty chocolate-lolly mash up with a chocolatey answer to retro bakesale treat coconut ice. The Coconut Ice Surprise chocolate has a twist though, 20c from each block goes to Plunket – a charity which New Zealanders agree is a worthy cause. However, to relate the chocolate to the charity, Whittaker's has built the campaign around baby gender reveal parties, causing a backlash from the public who argue gender norms have expanded beyond blue for boys and pink for girls.
