Third time’s a charm: Paul Maher returns to TVNZ (again)

TVNZ has announced the appointment of Paul Maher to the executive role of commercial director.

This move will see him fill the gap left by departing commercial director Jeremy O’Brien, whose resignation was announced in July.

“Paul will join us in mid September and will work alongside … Jeremy O’Brien prior to his departure later in the month,” says TVNZ chief executive Kevin Kenrick.

Maher will be returning to familiar territory, having worked at TVNZ between 2010 and 2012 as well as between 1997 and 2000.

“Paul has extensive local and international media market experience including a previous stint as TVNZ’s head of sales and marketing,” Kenrick says.

“I’m confident that Paul, working with our commercial leadership team, will provide the market leading capability we need to guide our future sales and marketing performance. We’ve got full confidence in our commercial team who have grown our market share of revenue for a number of years. Paul will be a great complement. He understands the market and the needs of advertisers and agencies that underpin our business.”

After his last stint at TVNZ, he departed for MediaWorks, where he served as chief executive for over two and half years.

Most recently, he has been contracting to Ogilvy and Mather.

He also held various roles at Starcom between 2000 and 2010.
