SOME DAMN AGENCY set to launch next week

Two Auckland-based industry professionals have banded together to start a new boutique agency, Some Damn Agency, officially launching on Monday 1 July.

Founders Mihisara De Waas and Jyotsna Poosalingam are no strangers to the industry, with more than 20 years of combined international and local experience. De Waas has previously worked at VMLY&R, OMD New Zealand and Ikon Communications, while Poosalingam has worked at Google, Yellow New Zealand and Dentsu Aegis Network and more.

De Waas and Poosalingam met while working at VivaKi, when De Waas had only just entered the industry and Poosalingam was four years into her career in New Zealand, after moving over from India.

While they eventually went their separate paths in their careers, the pair remained friends and have been laying the foundations for their own digital ad agency for some time.

De Waas says Some Damn Agency has tailor-made for New Zealand in its model, ethos and culture code. She says they will be characterised by their willingness to aid any initiatives that may advance and stimulate advertising operations for all New Zealanders.

Full details of the agency will be announced, along with its official launch, on Monday at Some Damn Agency’s LinkedIn page.

De Waas says knowing when was the right time to launch was one of the biggest challenges.

“Knowing when to take a chance has never been my strong suit – but I’m getting better at learning that it’s called risk for a reason,” she says.

“I guess you could say that kindness, compassion and empowerment have become my fuel for a much larger existence in my industry.”

Poosalingam says starting a new agency in her adopted country is exciting.

“I believe wholeheartedly in this community and this industry, and I love New Zealand for the home it has become. I want a place here, a life and a career.

“I want to be able to create a future for others that will follow, as I’ve always believed in training and mentoring youth into doing better than us. I want to be responsible for being more than just a name that is popular – I want to leave a mark on the industry for the better.”
