Podcasts aplenty: NZME and TVNZ launch podcasts

Hold The Front Page

NZME has launched The Front Page, a new daily podcast that gives audiences a 15-minute round-up of the news of the day, in time for the commute home.

Presented from Monday to Friday by hosts Frances Cook and Juliette Sivertsen, The Front Page is available for free on podcast platforms iHeartRadio and iTunes from 5pm each day, as well as on the NZ Herald and Newstalk ZB websites.

Designed and developed by Cook, who is already well-known to podcast audiences through her Cooking the Books show on managing personal finances. Radio audiences will recognise co-host Sivertsen as a newsreader on Newstalk ZB.

The podcast is complemented with ‘in brief’ versions of the stories mentioned, with links back to the original

NZME planning editor Andrew Laxon says the podcast launch marks an exciting development for the company.

“We’ve already shown listeners we can deliver high-quality issues-based series, such as our Chasing Ghosts series on the disappearance of Amber-Lee Cruickshank, and the murders of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope in the Sounds. Earlier this year we tackled the impact of the #MeToo movement on New Zealand through the highly regarded Speaking Secrets, and now are giving our audience the option to catch up on the daily news in the same format.

“I’m delighted that we’ll now be able to give listeners an up-to-date, authoritative podcast on the news of the day.”

Getting to the bottom of The Story

Just six weeks after he started at TVNZ, John Campbell has launched a new podcast series, The Story. In the podcasts, which will run weekly, Campbell will go in-depth into stories currently making the news. The Story will also have videos on the 1 News website.

The first episode, launched on Monday, takes a look at Australia’s offshore detention centre in Nauru and talks with 1News Pacific correspondent Barbara Dreaver who was briefly detained there in September.

Campbell previously hosted the First Person with John Campbell on Radio New Zealand.
