NZDM Awards: JustOne, FCB and Colenso BBDO lead the finalists

The 2017 New Zealand Direct Marketing Award finalists have been announced and it’s JustOne, FCB and Colenso BBDO that make the most appearances on the finalist list.

The awards celebrate and recognise work that exhibits excellence in insight-driven marketing projects, campaigns that connected with customers on an individual basis and generated outstanding results.

This year, it called for examples that have created that special chemistry of data, strategy, creativity and results over the last 12 months.

Trevor Moodie, chief judge for the industry, channel, craft and special awards, says the judges were impressed by the campaigns that have pushed the boundaries while building strong engagement with identified customers and delivering strong results.

“These entries, according to the judges, provide a positive indication for the future of the industry,” he says.

Making the finalist list is JustOne with 12 unique finalist campaigns, followed by FCB New Zealand with nine, Colenso BBDO has eight nods, Loyalty New Zealand and Chemistry Interaction have six and five respectively.

This year, Fairfax Media, Loyalty New Zealand and Mercer (NZ) Limited are competing for distinction in The Keith Norris Direct Marketing Organisation of the Year Award while Annabelle Fowler and Tracy Smithers are up for the 2017 Direct Marketer of the Year Award.

Entry into the awards this year saw a change, with entries received via an online portal that then allowed the judging to be completed online.

“This was received with great excitement and applauded by the judges,” said Tony Mitchell, chief executive of the Marketing Association.

Moodie adds that the judges indicated they were really impressed with the ease of use of the new process and the fact that everything needed was easily accessible and all in one place.

“It has significantly simplified the judging process and the enhanced flexibility has resulted in an increase in participation from a wider selection of judges. A great innovation well received by the marketing industry.”

All categories winners (excluding the special awards) will be honoured with gold, silver or bronze recognition.

The gold award recipients in the industry and channel categories, and nexus categories, will be judged by a panel of industry experts who will decide which campaign has risen to the top as the most exceptional example of individual brilliance in direct marketing, and ultimately become the Grand Prix and Nexus Supreme Award winners.

Winners will be unveiled at the awards night on Thursday, 1 March 2018 at Cordis, Auckland.
