New name, fresh look, flash venue: CAANZ Media Awards revamped

For many years the CAANZ Media Awards have been the annual event that celebrates the very best of the media industry, rewarding standout performers for their contribution to the industry. But the CAANZ committee has decided that the current format has run its course, and that it’s time for change.

Starting next year, the ceremony will be replaced by the revamped Beacon Awards, which in addition to featuring a new name will also have a new digs and a flash new look.

“In launching the Beacon Awards, our objective is to create a new, relevant brand that positions both the awards themselves and media agencies at the forefront of the communications industry, both in the minds of the broader industry and clients,” said CAANZ CEO Paul Head in a release that announced the change.

DraftFCB was tasked with leading the process to create a new name and brand positioning along with developing the creative campaign to promote the call for entries.

Not only did the team at DraftFCB come up with a new name, they also designed a fresh trophy (to be unveiled in the new year) and chose a new venue for the event.

From next year, the awards ceremony, which effectively outgrew the Langham Hotel venue, will be shifted to the much larger Viaduct Events Centre.

Although the event only occurs on 1 May 2014, interested agencies will be able to lodge entries from 9 December 2013.
