Mother’s Day 2018: Who is sending commercial messages of love

Lotto New Zealand

It’s a family affair for Lotto this year, featuring Jaquie Brown, her son and her own mum.

The spot, by Spark PR & Activate, starts off with Brown with a kid’s foot in her face, talking about how while flowers and chocolates are always welcomed, time with family is what mothers want.

However, with comic timing that Brown is known for, she suddenly asks her own mum if she gets her a Lotto ticket would her mum get her one too, and it’s revealed that Brown’s mum is in the bed too, with Brown’s foot in her face.

Leah Neilson, Lotto marketing manager, says the Mother’s Day campaign is about capturing what mums really want – more time with their family – incorporating Brown’s quirky sense of humour.

Chris Lloyd, Spark PR & Activate’s head of content, says the video that plays out the realities of being a mum.

“While a Lotto Triple Dip win would mean you could buy a lot of nice things, what most parents want is the opportunity to spend more time with their kids. Jaquie is perfect to carry the balance of being relatable and inspirational.”

Hell Pizza

To help forgetful Kiwis, Hell Pizza customers will receive a Mother’s Day card and a champagne and rose flavoured lollipop for every double pizza they buy for the two days before the big day.

Once the lollipop has been finished, it can be planted in a pot or outside where it will grow into a rose bush. The card features fill in the blanks including options, including ‘thank you for all the…’ and ‘sorry for that time I…’.

Hell general manager Ben Cumming says there is nothing worse than waking up on Mother’s Day and realising that you’ve forgotten to buy something for mum.

“We decided to help New Zealanders out this year by making it easy for them to get hold of a last minute card and gift. The lollipop is quite different to anything mum will have received before and is sure to put the kids – both young and old – in her good books.”

While mum could possibly prefer a bouquet of real roses, and might not be so happy that you’re eating pizza and not vegetables, it’s definitely a unique idea.

Lewis Road Creamery

While we all love our real mums, there’s nothing like a ‘work mum’ who keeps you going.

For Mother’s Day, Lewis Road Creamery is running a competition via a video on Facebook for people to celebrate their work mum by winning a hamper of Lewis Road products by explaining why their work mum is the best.

The video shows two people cheers-ing with Lewis Road’s latest range of breakfast drinks.

Spark

While it’s not new and having been released for Father’s Day last year, this ad is is back playing on Kiwi screens celebrating single mums.

It’s both touching and unexpected, and with the wonderful song ‘Imagining My Man’ from Kiwi singer Aldous Harding, definitely enduring.
