Magazine Media Awards finalists: Bauer domination continues, but indies put in strong showing

The Magazine Publishers Association has announced a total of 116 finalists for this year’s edition of the Magazine Media Awards.

Bauer’s haul of 52 finalists spots saw the publisher top the pile, followed by Tangible Media on 28, Kowhai Media on 13 and Fairfax Media on nine.

In continuing the process of peer judging introduced last year, a panel of 68 judges from across the industry were chosen to select the standout entries for this year’s edition.

“The standard of work we saw in the entries was exceptional, reflecting the rapid evolution and growing sophistication of magazine media across every conceivable platform,” said John Baker, MPA board member and CEO of Tangible Media.

The innovation happening across the magazine industry was reflected in new categories (some launched this year and others last year), including Best Magazine 360 Brand Audience, Best Launch/Relaunch, Best Use of Research, Best Use of Video and Rising Star.

“This year’s finalists are evidence of an innovation explosion in the magazine sector,” said James Frankham, MPA Vice-Chairman and Publisher at Kowhai Media. “The diversity of working solutions demonstrate how many opportunities there are for magazine media in the modern environment.”

The wait is now on for the big event on 8 September.
