Lotto New Zealand has released a follow-up to its ‘Amoured Truck’ ad with characters Ray and Sateesh reunited in a Christmas surprise.
Part of the 'Imagine' series, the 45-second spot via DDB starts with a Skype call from Sateesh to Ray on Christmas Day. Sateesh appears to be celebrating Christmas with his family in India, and as they talk Sateesh explains that the connection is breaking up.
At Sateesh’s suggestion, Ray goes outside to hopefully get a better connection and finds Sateesh and his family on his doorstep ready to celebrate Christmas with Ray and his wife.
DDB's chief creative officer Damon Stapleton says the opportunity to revisit the story of Ray and Sateesh is something the team really enjoyed.
“Kiwis responded powerfully to ‘Armoured Truck’, so I hope this spot can build upon that response, particularly at this time of year, when we reflect on what is most important to us.”
Lotto head of marketing Leah Neilson says she thinks this is a story that many Kiwis will relate to.
“The previous instalments in this series focused on the magic of winning, but with this one, we see the joy of Ray and Sateesh, good mates, enjoying the simple act of being together on Christmas. We’ll be providing Kiwis with rolling updates of Ray and Sateesh’s summer adventures with social videos which will play out over the holiday period."
'Armoured Truck' was inspired by a true story of a Kiwi man who won $15 million and, honouring a promise made long ago, went halves with his mate – exactly what Ray and Sateesh do.
Lotto New Zealand and DDB took home the Grand Effie and three golds at the 2018 Effie Awards for its 'Imagine' campaign.
