Long-serving duo to take Spark PHD reins

Between them they’ve worked under the Spark PHD roof for over 20 years and Nikki Grafton and Stuart Rutherford have been rewarded for their loyalty after being appointed as joint managing directors.

Louise Bond, soon to be the sole chief executive of the Spark Group given Richard Fenner’s imminent departure, says promoting Grafton and Rutherford “is a reflection of the company’s commitment to building and maintaining a strong and dynamic management team”.

“Nikki and Stu will play a vital role in leading Spark PHD into the future; their promotions are a result of the respect they’ve earned from their clients, partners and peers, and their significant contributions to the agency.”

Spark PHD took out the CAANZ Media Agency of the Year title last year and Grafton says the win all boils down to the “vibrant, creative and smart media professionals and steady team that make up Spark PHD”.

“Over the business’ 12 year history, it has been the significant and valuable contributions of the individuals, several of whom have been with us since day one, that have established us as market leader.”

PHD’s Asia Pacific chief executive, Cheuk Chiang was so happy about the promotions he spoke almost entirely in business cliches.

“Nikki and Stuart are both quintessentially PHD—dynamic, innovative and progressive–and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them drive the business in New Zealand. Together with Louise, they will make an unbeatable team and we look forward to seeing the business go from strength to strength.”

Speaing of PHD, its ‘predicting the future‘ lark didn’t really work out so well.
